Vocational education and career information

Most young people in Switzerland do an apprenticeship after compulsory school. They learn at a company and also attend a vocational school. This is called dual vocational education and training. Anyone who wants to choose or change their occupation can get free advice. This applies to young people and to adults.

Information about apprenticeships, occupations and continuing education is available at the career information centre, BIZ for short. Young people and adults can look at documents and ask questions there without an appointment. In the canton of Zurich there are BIZ centres in several places, for example in Oerlikon, Winterthur and Kloten. A vocational training centre (Berufsbildungszentrum) is a place where various offerings in vocational education come together, for example a vocational school and continuing education courses.
